SAINT LOUIS UNIVERSITY – SACRED HEART MEDICAL CENTER’S
HISTORY

On May 10, 1977, the SLU-Hospital of the Sacred Heart (SLU-HSH) was opened. It serves as a training hospital for the university's Schools of Nursing, Natural Sciences, and Medicine. It is the only Level III APEX University Hospital in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). In mid-2022, it was renamed as the Saint Louis University-Sacred Heart Medical Center (SLU-SHMC), in conjunction with the opening of its twin tower hospital buildings.

In August 2024, President, Fr. Gilbert B. Sales inaugurated the SLU-Sacred Heart Medical Center (SHMC) Medical Arts Parking Building, Doctors’ Clinics, and Office of Patient Experience.

The SLU-Sacred Heart Medical Center is located along Assumption Road Extension in the business district of Baguio City, Philippines. The institution's structural innovations and excellence demonstrate a commitment to bringing its unique, world-class brand of health care straight to the communities of its patients.

The Medical Center is recognized as a Premier and respected Catholic healthcare institution in the Philippines. A testament to SHMC's world-class quality medical service is its accreditation with and affiliation with prestigious national and international organizations.

The Hospital has a distinguished medical staff of 700 physicians, all experienced and recognized experts in various fields. The Medical staff is supported by a 400-member organization composed of nurses, allied medical, and administrative staff; many of these individuals have been with the Hospital for years, honing their competence.

SHMC has defined the value proposition: "A Heart That Truly Cares". Delivering state-of-the-art healthcare has been the cornerstone of SHMC's purpose, driven by a dedication to constantly reinvent, evolve, and improve excellence in medical and patient services. The essential elements that influence this include excellent clinical results, patient safety, education, training, research, an enhanced patient experience, and financial viability.

In the coming years to come, SLU-Sacred Heart Medical Center will tenaciously work toward realizing its vision and mission. It will also remain the top Catholic Hospital in the Philippines and the first choice for local and foreign patients seeking medical care.
